V.12 INFECTION

V.12 INFECTION

Behind the issue

Infection explores how difference can disrupt what we understand as normal, using the transformation caused by a pathogen as a metaphor for identity and change. What begins as something foreign or unwanted gradually reshapes how we see ourselves, how others perceive us, and where we believe we belong.

Across four sections, Diagnosis, Showing Symptoms, The Spread, and Mutation, the issue follows that transformation from first being defined by difference to eventually existing beyond it. The volume moves through self-awareness, fear, visibility, and acceptance, questioning who gets to define what is normal and what can happen when we embrace the parts of ourselves that were once treated as something to change.

MY PART

Making the issue

As Art Director for Infection, my work focused on graphic design, editorial design, and image-making across the issue and its digital presence. I designed several article spreads by developing imagery and layouts in response to the content of each piece, along with the masthead and thank-you spreads that framed the publication.

Beyond the issue itself, I created the launch graphic, an article promotion, and an experimental typographic teaser introducing Infection. I also designed the application graphic, developing a visual direction separate from the issue identity to promote the next generation of Rowdy members.

My work also extended into the photography through post-production, where I transformed selected images from the issue’s shoots with graphic and typographic treatments that pushed the photographs beyond their original form.
