WHAT IS ROWDY?
Bold, Outspoken, Loud.
MY ROLE
Editor in Chief + Art Director
I’ve grown with Rowdy from stylist to designer to now leading the magazine as both Art Director and Co-Editor-in-Chief. My role spans the entire life of an issue, from developing its initial concept and visual direction to shaping how that idea ultimately exists across print, digital, photography, and everything in between.
Each volume begins by defining what we want to say. I help bring together different perspectives to develop the larger concept behind the issue, then translate it into a creative framework that every team can build from. I work closely with our Photo Directors to develop concepts for each shoot, thinking through how an idea can be communicated visually while considering everything from location and styling to the resources we have available. Throughout the process, I guide creative decisions across the magazine and make sure the work being produced continues to communicate the message behind the issue while still leaving room for each person’s individual voice.
As Art Director, I shape the visual identity that brings those ideas together. I lead our designers and artists, establish the visual systems that carry across print and digital, and ultimately assemble the publication in InDesign. Alongside directing the work of others, I continue to create for the magazine myself through graphic and editorial design, photography, photo editing, and styling.
As Co-Editor-in-Chief, a large part of my role is keeping the magazine moving. I oversee our directors and teams, establish timelines, lead meetings, coordinate communication, manage production, and step in wherever something needs attention. With so many people and disciplines contributing to a single issue, I keep track of both the bigger picture and the moving parts behind it, making sure teams stay connected, deadlines stay on track, and ideas actually make it from concept to execution.
I see my role as creating the structure that allows Rowdy to be as collaborative as it is. Rather than controlling what everyone creates, I make sure people have the direction, resources, communication, and support they need to bring their own ideas into something we can build together.
