BIKINI PATTERNS

This project explores two pattern systems inspired by the contrasting visual languages of Antoni Gaudí’s architecture in Barcelona and the Alhambra in Granada. Gaudí’s organic forms and fragmented mosaics informed a fluid pattern digitally constructed in Photoshop by arranging individual shapes, applying patterns to each piece, and adding texture and shadow to recreate the depth of a physical mosaic. The Alhambra’s repetition and mathematical structure inspired a precise geometric pattern built in Illustrator using research into the construction of Islamic geometric forms and pattern-making techniques. Despite their contrasting approaches, both patterns share a visual language rooted in Spanish architecture and ornament. The final patterns were applied to bikini designs, translating architectural details and cultural influences into wearable forms.
