Choose Your Character

This project examines identity as performance through nine masks built on a self-portait, digitally transformed in Photoshop with distinct makeup looks. Arranged in a grid, the masks reference both control and video game character selection screens, suggesting the ways personas are chosen and performed in daily life. Set against a stark white background, they exist in a void, detached from context, emphasizing their artificiality and disembodiment. Blank eyes further strip them of individuality, turning them into vessels that could belong to anyone, or no one. The work asks whether identity is ever authentic or if it is always a collection of learned roles, questioning how much of the self is constructed or controlled.
